Greetings and welcome to this web site on parapsychology. The aim of the site is not to try and 'explain' phenomena that are encountered in parapsychological research. This would be extremely difficult to accurately do, as many parts of parapsychology cannot be explained through conventional scientific knowledge and understanding of today. Instead, this site aims to outline what the field of parapsychology consists of and to give an understanding of those concepts from a neutral standpoint.
It must also be taken into consideration what separates the normal from the paranormal. Generally, it is when something can no longer be explained using ‘normal’ or scientific methods. Because of this, is becomes classified as being paranormal. However, attitude plays a heavy role here. Individuals who disregard supernatural phenomenon will nearly always choose a normal explanation, even if it’s extremely unlikely. Of course, this works the other way also – somebody who strongly accepts the possibilities parapsychology offers will not use a normal explanation when what has happened appears to be supernatural.
